Illinois grocery store employee rescues baby from runaway shopping cart – WOKV
ALTON, Ill. — A courtesy clerk at an Illinois grocery store is being heralded a hero for taking quick action to save an endangered infant.
Ben Mazur was collecting shopping carts at the Schnucks in Alton on March 17 when a driver “repeatedly and frantically” honked the horn, the Belleville News-Democrat reported.
According to the store’s retelling of the harrowing tale on Facebook, the driver was trying to alert someone that a baby in a shopping cart was rolling toward danger.

Mazur, who told KTVI that the infant’s mother was putting other children in her vehicle when the shopping cart began rolling toward a stop sign, sprinted across the parking lot to intercept the child before the cart hit oncoming traffic.
“We have a slanted parking lot and carts can get rolling fast,” Tom Moore, co-manager of the Schnucks location, said in the Facebook post calling Mazur a “hero.”
“Quick thinking on Ben’s part saved the baby,” Moore wrote.
