Contractor Stole Thousands From Fairfield Family: Police
FAIRFIELD, CT — A contractor from Shelton is accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of items from a Fairfield family while working at their home, according to police.
Michael A. Mando was arrested on a warrant Dec. 31 and is set to appear in court later in the month after he was charged with second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, police said.
A family on Elm Street hired Mando to do home repairs, according to police. Then, over multiple weeks, a wallet, several pieces of jewelry and gift cards went missing, said police, who were notified about the thefts in October.
An investigation revealed Mando and a co-conspirator had sold the family’s jewelry and other household items at a West Haven pawn shop, according to police. The items recovered by law enforcement at the shop were worth more than $1,000, although the homeowners reported a loss of $12,600 from the thefts, police said.
Mando, 29, of Falmouth Drive, remains in custody on $50,000 bond and has yet to enter a plea, according to court records. His next court date is set for Jan. 28.
